Oasis
India started when a group of individuals had a burden to help the poor
and destitute. Work in Mumbai and Bangalore began simultaneously,
and Oasis became a registered organisation which was approved in
November, 1993.
Various teams helped to set up the work in Mumbai, starting among street children and rag-pickers and beginning vocational training schemes with the establishment of Jacobs Well. Our work expanded with health initiatives in the slums of Khanderpadda and Ganeshpada, work among girls in Chembur and the start of The Paperworks to train older boys. Growth continued |

when we opened Purnata Bhavan in 1997 in response to the need for HIV care in the city.
The work in Bangalore started in a garage reaching out to rag-picker children. Within a few days, 25 slum children were coming together on weekends for education and nutrition.
In 1994, a daily programme began providing health care, food and basic literacy classes. A year later, a day care centre was established. For the first time in their lives, the children experienced regular school days, ate balanced meals, had games and outings. This success led us to expand our work and by 1996 we began working among children of another slum - Jeevanahalli.
Today, Snehadhan I & II provide daily food and education for 100 local children. We also run hostels to care for abused, neglected and abandoned children; programmes to provide academic and vocational training to youngsters; and community improvement schemes to benefit whole areas. |
